The Koolaire KDT-0500A ice machine can produce 515 pounds of ice if the ambient air and incoming water temperatures are ideal. Its AHRI-certified ice production capacity is 400 pounds. Great for nearly any application, full-cube ice will not melt quickly, but it does not cool drinks quickly or take up as much space in glasses as smaller ice types. Water that will turn into ice runs through the white plastic food zone, which has removable parts that must be cleaned frequently. To access this part of the unit, two screws in the door should be removed, as well as the door itself.

Ice is produced when the toggle switch is turned to its "ice" cycle and the water curtain is shut. Air-cooled refrigerant lines cool the evaporator plate as water runs over it. This water freezes in the individual cells to create cubes, and once water flows over the ice thickness float switch, water flow shuts off. The ice's thickness is measured by the harvest switch, which then warms the refrigerant lines and the evaporator plate to release the ice into a bin.

Note: This unit must be paired with an ice maker bin or ice dispenser.
